Who is Longleaf Energy Associates?

 

 

Longleaf Energy Associates, LLC (LS Power)is a limited liability company established as a corporate shell to facilitate the permitting, financing, and construction of the proposed Early County coal fired power generating plant. At this time, Longleaf has no known employees and essentially has no assets or liabilities. If history is any guide, Longleaf will never have any employees and will only acquire meaningful assets and liabilities once financing for the proposed plant is arranged, probably sometime later in 2002 if necessary permits and power contracts are obtained. Longleaf, however, will be the applicant for the critical permits and the principle party to the necessary contracts to finance, construct, and operate the proposed Plant. Longleaf Energy Associates, LLC is a subsidiary of L.S. Power Associates, LP. L.S. Power Associates is managed by L.S. Power Development ,LLC and is the business successor to L. S. Power Corporation and L.S. Power, LLC.

 

Who is L.S. Power ?

 

L. S. Power is a private, for profit Delaware corporation owned by three individuals whose identities and respective ownership interests have yet to be disclosed in any public records reviewed to date. Through a complex, multi-layered structure of limited companies, L.S. Power currently owns and controls LSP.

L. S. Power is in the business of developing electric generating facilities in various locations which up until now were gas fired generating plants.

 

L.S. Power is a very small company. The company declined to provide Dun & Bradstreet with a financial statement, but its Chief Financial Officer estimated early in 1999 that its annual revenues were approximately $4 million. It only has between 20 and 30 employees. Its principle offices are located in East Brunswick, NJ. Its key officer is:

 

            Mikhail Segal is co-founder and President of LS Power and its affiliates. After beginning his career in the Soviet Union as an official in the Energy Ministry from 1971 to 1978, Mr. Segal has acquired more than 20 years experience in the electric utility and independent power industry, managing project development, financing, engineering, and marketing activities. Mr. Segal has a Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Kharkov Polytech Institute in the Ukraine. Mr. Segal co-managed L.S. Power as a managing director from 1990 to 1996 and has served as President and Chief executive Officer of L.S. Power since February 1996.
