The Friends of the Chattahoochee is not an environmental organization per se. We are a non profit citizens group that focuses on environmental issues that may effect our lives and livelihoods. Our membership includes people just like you. We are farmers, doctors, lawyers, educators, and business people. We are not radicals. We are conservationists.
Early County and the whole wiregrass region is God’s Country. We often take it for granted but we have been so very blessed. We have a beautiful river called the Chattahoochee as our neighbor. From hardwood bottoms to pristine pine forests, we have some of the most beautiful woodland areas in the world full of healthy wildlife. We even have spring fed creeks that you can still safely drink out of. Our natural resources are our biggest asset, not industry. Through the years industry will come and go, but our land, our water, our air will always be here. In what condition will we leave it to our children and their children is up to us, not the EPA, EPD ,or any other government agency susceptible to big money lobbying.
We have to be very careful on who we invite in to use our resources. Tax relief, as big an issue as it seems to some, becomes insignificant when your child’s asthma or your elderly mother’s emphysema becomes worse due to avoidable air pollution. In the end…it’s not money but your health that makes life worth living.
The Friends of the Chattahoochee is not a fly by night group organized strictly to oppose the L.S. Power project. We are actively involved in other issues including Atlanta’s continuing abuse of the Chattahoochee and Flint River waterways. We are also involved in trying to improve water usage and renewable energy legislation to benefit rural counties as well as urban areas. The FoC will be around for a long time and we want to speak for you. If you have comments, please call us at 1-800-883-7436.
